Community Guidelines
Part of being a good Warden is being a good host. The following guidelines will help you and your players have the absolute best time running and playing our games.
RESPECT & INCLUSION
All are welcome in our worlds and at our tables. Treating everyone with respect is paramount to successful sessions, including the Tuesday Knight Games team, convention/event staff, other GMs, and players. We will not stand for disrespectful language or actions based on race/ethnicity, sexual orientation/gender identity, disability, or other hateful speech or actions.
SAFETY
Giving your players content warnings for your scenario and using safety tools at your table are required in the Warden’s Club, with no exceptions. See the Safety Tools page for more information if these are new to you.
ENGAGING FUN
Running a game at a convention or game store can be vastly different from setting up a home game. There are far more wildcards to handle in a constrained amount of time. Players are seeking a full story (from start to middle to end) in 2-4 hours, and it’s your job to make it happen!
We also recommend playing a test session prior to your event if you need to familiarize yourself with the game’s mechanics, setting, or scenario! Focus on creating a fun environment for your players and take the creative liberty to cut past items that may detract from completing your scenario.
The most important bits of any session, especially convention games, are the beginning and the end. Beginnings and endings can really determine how a player feels about the session at large. Whether you’re running a pre-generated scenario or developing your own, be sure you're prepared with a hook that will stand out to players new and old, and be ready to wrap up the story in a way that leaves players stoked about what they experienced and excited for more.
COMMUNICATION AND EXPECTATIONS
Now for the least exciting area of community guidelines: actual rules. Following these guidelines to the best of your ability will set everyone involved up for success.
-
COMMUNICATION: If something comes up throughout the process that we may need to know about (ex. scheduling issues, questions when preparing a new game/scenario, absent players, etc.), don’t hesitate to reach out to our team! We’re here to help with solutions and want to ensure you and your players have the best possible experience.
-
BE ON TIME: We’re all human and things happen. Getting in the habit of arriving early, setting up your table in advance, ensuring any materials your players may need are ready to distribute, and starting your game as close to on time as possible will help you pack in all of the story and action!
-
CHECK IN: At events where Tuesday Knight Games has a formal presence, be sure to check in with a team member before your first session at that convention/event. Specific instructions for locating a team member will be provided ahead of any event with a Tuesday Knight Games presence.
-
BE THOROUGH: There are many intricacies to hosting incredible games. Please save our team time by ensuring you are thorough in your game forms and follow all instructions so we don't have to fill in the gaps!
-
AUTONOMY: While we can provide materials, resources, and tools to be as helpful as possible and encourage Wardens to run our games, we cannot do everything. Please feel empowered to take our materials and run with them as long as you’re doing so safely - it’s what makes these stories so special! Fun is paramount, so let us know if we can improve that quotient at any point.
-
BE REAL: Remember to solve disputes as people, not characters. If you have a player who is rude, disruptive, or otherwise difficult to play with, address the behavior with them privately. Don’t try and correct them “in character” with game-world consequences.
-
GET FEEDBACK: Encourage your players to complete the feedback form. Feedback-both positive and negative-can feel uncomfortable at times. But it can also help us to grow as Wardens, players, and people. Feedback can also help us decide which Wardens will represent us at conventions and other special events.
-
BE KIND: When running games on behalf of Tuesday Knight Games or the Warden’s Club, you are an extension of us - be kind to everyone throughout the process! Our team, convention or event teams, volunteers, and your players will all appreciate it.
-
HAVE FUN: Prioritize the safety and fun of your players over everything else. The story, rules, challenge, balance, it all takes a back seat to making sure everyone is comfortable and enjoying themselves.
