Running Your Game
BEFORE GAMING
JOIN THE PROGRAM
If you’re reading this guide, you’ve likely already filled out our information form or spoken directly with a member of the Wardens Club! Once you’ve read & completed the form, you’ll get a like to receive a role and be added to our dedicated Warden Support channel in the TKG community on Discord.
ORGANIZING A GAME
You can play games anywhere, anytime. Organize a game online or in person, and let us know, and we will do our best to help spread the word. Post the game in the dedicated Discord channel to ensure folks know about it!
PREPPING FOR YOUR GAME(S)
Most TKG games are designed with minimal to no prep in mind, but some preparation may be required.
-
If you need any materials or resources. Please see the resource tabs linked in this document and on Discord. These tabs include PDFs of game texts and quickstarts, pre-generated character sheets, and, depending on the game, pre-selected scenarios designed for convention play. We may also be able to help with physical materials on a case-by-case basis.
-
If you have questions about running a game, please ask on Discord, and our Wardens and TKG will be happy to show you the ropes.

Play in a TKG public game.
RUNNING THE GAME
You can run a game in a store, library, bar, or ONLINE. The caveat is that the game must be publicly available. Public games allow us to spread the passion for TKG to the rest of the world.
TKG will offer opportunities to run games in an official capacity. We'll post these opportunities in Discord and schedule them with the TKG team, who will work with the Wardens to organize games and badges.
WHAT ABOUT DURING MY GAME SESSION(S)?
We believe the beauty in Tabletop Games comes from the endless story opportunities born from the vast array of ideas both Wardens and Players bring to the table. While we can’t give you an exact play-by-play for a game since it’ll always be a unique experience, we do expect the following:
-
Follow the TKG Community Guidelines.
-
Utilize Safety Tools and ensure that all players are empowered to play in a safe gaming environment.
-
Give your players a chance to get to know you and each other, too. We suggest creating name cards for you as the GM, the players, and their characters, including names and pronouns.
-
Keep us in the loop. Have an idea for improving the convention or event play of TKG games? Let us know!
-
Last, (but most importantly) have fun!
AFTER YOUR GAME(S)
GET FEEDBACK
We would love to know how your players enjoyed the game. Please share this Player Feedback link with them or print this QR code for playing in person. This helps us to decide who we call on to represent TKG at conventions and beyond.
SUBMITTING YOUR GAME(S) TO GAIN REWARDS
Submit your public game using this form. This will ensure we can track and coordinate your rewards and future games.
SHOW OFF!(Optional)
Show off your completed game! Take a pic or boast about the adventure in the Mothership Discord.
This can be a photo of your table’s set-up or a selfie with you & your players during your session. While we love sharing photos of our games far and wide on our official @playtkg social media accounts, if you or anyone at your table asks us to keep a game verification photo private for any reason, we will honor that request via the post-session form.
OPEN DOOR POLICY
You or your players may leave the game at any time for any reason and do not need to justify it. Ideally, you will be able to tell your players, or they will be able to tell you, if a break is needed, but it is okay if the exit is abrupt. If this happens, talk amongst the remaining players and decide if you would like to continue playing. It is okay if you stop prematurely – the people behind the characters matter more than finishing the adventure.
WRAP UP & THANKS
Thank you for joining the Warden’s Club.
-
If you haven’t joined us on Discord, now’s the perfect time! Let a member of the TKG team know that you’re a member of the Warden’s Club to gain access to our private #gm-program-chat channel. This channel can be used to connect with other GMs, talk about convention play strategies, and get in touch with our team if you have any questions.
-
Be on the lookout for open calls for conventions across the US! We are always on the hunt for great GMs to join us at cons like Gen Con, Big Bad Con, PAX: Unplugged, and more.
